It started a few weeks ago when I went through the worst pain e.v.e.r. Literally. Ever. Child birth was a breeze in comparison to a severely infected wisdom tooth. Had that removed and then tweaked my back then got sick….all that and my running career took a hiatus.
Started back over the weekend thanks to my hub and feeling totally fantastic. Even went out & got some Vibram’s!!! Wore them for yesterday’s walk/run and shockingly I have zero pain in my feet & legs like I thought I would! My ankles were mildly sore last night but today I am 100%! I feel weird in them…like I am running in socks. Weird.
The “big” news now….
Well, I have 2 things that could be considered “big” I guess, one FAR more exciting than the other…
1) Our first 5k is at the end of May!! The hub & I plan to do it together and I want to run the WHOLE thing!! (this is the least exciting but most ambitious of the 2)
2) We booked a cruise for Sept.!!! This will be our first vacation in almost 4 years and I am more excited than words can accurately describe.
So now comes the change in my workout…not only am I working towards a faster mile for the 5k but ALSO to get in [much much much better] shape. A shape other than round. A less lumpy shape. A shape closer to that of say…Jillian Michaels. I am eating tons of fruit and trying to stick to mainly water but I hate, hate, HATE dieting so I am trying to stay away from that term or concept by aiming for healthier foods instead of limiting myself to “X” amount of calories or carbs or fat or whatever each day.
164 days and I’ll be running the deck of a cruise ship :o)
So the little tracker on my nano does not give me my distance, only how many steps I took. I guess I will have to map out my route to get the distance and stick to it when I go.
It rained on Friday and though our road is paved there are a lot of roads in my neighborhood that are dirt. As I said in one of my first posts, I prefer to run on the dirt so I stay on those roads. Well, dirt & rain makes mud, shocking, right? I was really fine with it because the mud puddles were not so big that I could not jog right around them. It was a very quiet afternoon around here & I only saw 2-3 cars while I was out. What are the odds that one of those few cars happened to pass at the exact time I was jogging by the largest of mud puddles and not have the courtesy to go slowly or even wait for me to pass? The odds are pretty good, apparently. 5 minutes in and I was soaked. And dirty.
I COULD have gone straight home & made the excuse that I was cold in the 50 degree air. It would have been easy…justifiable even. But I kept on, pulled up my [now wet & cold] big girl panties & stayed out for 25 minutes! Day 2 success! My calves & ankles feel fine today too!
Q: SO…Am I a runner NOW???
A: Again, not even close. (but slightly closer than before)
So I was all dressed in my running clothes (my one outfit I have for the task) and by the time my hub got home it was black out and since we live in the sticks I was not about to venture out because I am a wimp….and it is hard to carry my gun in running clothes. I did do some stretches that I found for runners and a little kickboxing so that putting a sports bra on was not a complete waste at least. The stretching felt amazing and I will most definitely be doing them before & after every run from here on out.
I did get a prize though… the hub brought me home a tiny little iPod nano 🙂 I spent the evening adding all my music & getting it all set up. I am super happy that it just clips on & I can go… however it does not have my running app to track my pace & distance so I am little torn. There is a pedometer on it that I think will do basically the same stuff other than keep me on a timed routine but I would much rather take the tiny nano than my big ol droid.
I sincerely hope that the rain lets up long enough at some point this afternoon AND that the hub is home so that I can go do this. I am so ready for day 2!
